WINTER FAIRY TALE IN BULGARIA
KOUKERY CARNIVAL 2020
Our winter fairy tale will take you to the carnival town of Pernik, as well as to the magnificent snowy mountains of Southwest Bulgaria. During the tour travelers will visit Pernik- member of the International Federation of Carnival Cities- and will have the unique chance to follow the annual parade of the Koukery. Upon your personal choice, the program continues with a SPA relaxation or with active skiing at the balneo- and ski resort of Dobrinishte. Travelers have the option to witness the national cultural heritage called “Dobarski Babi” and declared as part of the Living Human Treasures of Bulgaria.
Day 1- 24th January, Thu– arrival in Sofia, Bulgaria (Sofia International Airport); transfer to hotel; overnight in Sofia (city hotel***); dinner included.
Day 2- 25th January, Fri– morning walking tour of the Bulgarian capital- including Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Flea Market, the Presidency, the Russian Church, St. George Rotunda (4th century), Roman Serdika ruins; optional visit to Boyana Church (UNESCO site) and the National Historical Museum; in the evening participate in the official opening of the Koukery Carnival in Pernik; overnight in Sofia; breakfast and dinner included.
Day 3- 26th January, Sat– whole day in the carnival town of Pernik- follow the Koukery, during the spectacular parade and masquerade games; return to Sofia in the evening; overnight in Sofia; breakfast and dinner included.
Day 4- 27th January, Sun– transfer to Dobrinishte- ski- and mineral water resort located in Southwest Bulgaria and surrounded by the magnificent Rila, Pirin and Rhodope mountains; on the way visit Rila Monastery- the biggest Orthodox Christian monastery in Bulgaria, part of UNESCO list of world cultural heritage; overnight in Dobrinishte (resort SPA hotel***); breakfast and dinner included.
Day 5- 28th January, Mon– free time in Dobrinishte- options for skiing (ski-rental in town), relaxation and SPA procedures with mineral water; overnight in Dobrinishte; breakfast and dinner included.
Day 6- 29th January, Tue– free time in Dobrinishte; optional whole-day tour to the village of Dobarsko- visit the unique 17th century church with original frescoes; enjoy the authentic folklore performance of the famous Dobarski babi (the old ladies from Dobarsko) and participate in the preparation of lunch, according to the local culinary traditions (lunch in the optional tour is included); overnight in Dobrinishte; breakfast and dinner included.
Day 7- 30th January, Wed– Whole-day tour to Bansko- the charming little town, overlooking three magnificent mountains, is today famous for its wonderful ski facilities, unique atmosphere and Bulgarian National Revival architecture; overnight in Dobrinishte; breakfast and dinner included.
Day 8- 31st January, Thu– transfer to Sofia; free afternoon in the Bulgarian capital; overnight in Sofia (city hotel***); breakfast and dinner included.
Day 9- 1st February, Fri– transfer to the airport (Sofia International Airport); breakfast included.
